Getting there
Shinjuku-gyoemmae Stn (Marunouchi Line) Exit 2, 3 min walk
Takumi Tatsuhiro was opened in 2009 near Shinjuku Station by a chef who had trained for about five years at Sushi Sho, the renowned sushi counter in Yotsuya; it moved in 2012. In 2026 the restaurant moved to new premises at Shinjuku 1-chome, a few minutes from the Shinjuku Gyoen garden, where it seats ten at the counter with a private room alongside. Tabelog named it to its Sushi Tokyo Hyakumeiten (top-100 list) in 2021 and 2022. It holds One MICHELIN Star (MICHELIN Guide Japan 2026).
What you eat
An omakase in the Sushi Sho rhythm: carefully worked otsumami — small plates of fish and seasonal bites — served in turn with nigiri, rather than all the appetizers first and the rice after. The sushi is cut clean and sharp, with the balance between fish and rice the point of every piece, and the fish is drawn from Hokkaido, Kyushu and Ishikawa as well as the Tokyo market. Lunch offers a shorter, lighter version of the same counter.
The booking reality
Seats are sold first come, first served on Ikyu, Tabelog and Retty — all Japanese‑language — and there is no published release day; one guest reported in June 2026 getting in by phoning the same day. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays and on Mondays that fall on a public holiday. Ikyu charges the full price for same‑day cancellations and lists children as not accepted, so any visit with children has to be cleared with the house first.
The phone is answered in Japanese. Asking for the private room, a particular seating, or how the kitchen can handle an allergy across an omakase is a conversation with the house — and that call is the one our desk makes.
Want the Sushi Sho style at a counter that has not yet become impossible to book — and would rather plan a Shinjuku evening around ten seats than a hotel dining room.

Charged by the house, not by us. A plan's own policy takes precedence.
