Ryogetsu opened in March 2023 in Kanayama‑cho, the tangle of eating streets east of Hatchobori that is the after‑dark centre of Hiroshima, and it has done something unusual there: become one of the city’s best‑regarded sushi counters on Tabelog while remaining a place you can simply book. The room is six seats and a small table at the back — the house describes itself as family‑run, the master having taken over from his father — and the tone reviewers report is warm rather than hushed. Rice is Koshihikari from Shobara in the Hiroshima hills; the fish is local where local is best and sent direct from elsewhere when it is not.

What you eat

One omakase at ¥15,400 with tax, offered at 18:00, at 20:30, and at Sunday lunch. The sequence runs tsumami first, then nigiri — reviewers count around six small dishes before the sushi, and cite Hiroshima oysters slowly cooked in sesame oil among the house’s ideas. Diners in 2025–2026 report ¥20,000–25,000 a head with sake. The room has no fixed closing days and instead closes irregularly; the calendar on Tabelog shows what is open.

The booking reality

This is the easy kind, and the point of listing it. Tabelog takes an online request for any of the three seatings; the phone (050‑5596‑0288, or 082‑247‑1289, in Japanese) is answered between 13:00 and 22:00; and the house accepts reservations up to the day before — no same‑day bookings. There is no release day. Reviewers book a week or two ahead, one from Tokyo well in advance, one two nights before for a Sunday lunch; the same reviewers note, with some relief, how rare that is at this level. A card holds an online booking, but the bill itself is settled in cash, so carry it.

Six seats mean a party of four takes most of the room, and the house offers private hire for families. The house publishes no rule on children, perfume or photography; we ask when we book. Our desk calls in Japanese, confirms the seating and the cash arrangement, and holds the counter for you.
