Minoh is where Osaka goes to see leaves: a wooded gorge at the end of the Hankyu line whose path climbs past a temple to a waterfall, red in November and green the rest of the year. Ichijunisai Ueno’s Minoh house sits on that path, in a hundred‑year‑old ryotei inn converted into private rooms and a detached wing hanging over the Minoh river. The family’s original restaurant made its name on dashi drawn without a grain of chemical seasoning, and the Minoh branch took two Michelin stars of its own in the 2020 and 2021 Kyoto‑Osaka guides.

What you eat

Kaiseki in the Osaka manner, built on the broth: a first bite, the soup, sashimi, a hassun of many small dishes on one broad plate, a fried course, a simmered course, a vinegared dish, seasonal rice and dessert, with a grilled course and a seasonal plate added as the courses climb. Lunch runs ¥16,500, ¥22,000 and ¥33,000, dinner ¥22,000, ¥33,000 and ¥44,000, tax included with 10% service on top. The house’s tempura is fried in rice oil, and if you book the ground‑floor room a cook fries it piece by piece in front of you — the zashiki tempura the local tourist office recommends. A caller in 2026 was told the least expensive course was already generous, which matches our reading of it.

The booking reality

No release day. The house takes calls in Japanese on 072‑745‑0699 and is listed on Ikyu and on its own TableCheck page — with one catch: an online request is not a booking until the house confirms it by phone or email, and its cancellation terms on TableCheck are 50% from 48 hours and 100% from 24 hours. Ikyu charges 100% only on the day. Children are welcome, counted as adults if they eat the adult course; a party more than 30 minutes late without word may lose the room; the house parks cars if you give the model and plate in advance, since the last stretch of the falls path is closed to traffic. The rooms are contested only in the foliage weeks of November. Our desk books in Japanese, chooses the room — river side or the tempura room — and settles the course so that the confirmation call the house makes is a formality.
