Tofu kaiseki in a former villa associated with Prince Fumimaro Konoe, on a riverside rock upstream of Togetsukyo, in a park with no car access (about 15 minutes on foot from Randen Arashiyama). Book online (RES) or by phone.

Lunch courses from ¥5,500 including tax; dinner, Friday to Sunday and holidays only, is reservation-only and closes at 17:00 the day before. Lunch takes walk-ins when free but is often full, so the house asks guests to book. One table room seats up to four; other rooms are tatami. No children under junior-high age.

How do I book Shoraian from abroad?

Shoraian takes reservations through RES (linked from the official site; English available), which you can use from abroad. If you would rather not, our Tokyo desk can request it for you: ¥6,000 per seat, charged only if the table is secured. A free release-date alert emails you the day before, on the morning of release day (08:00 JST) and about 30 minutes before when the opening time is known; houses that open a little every day come in a weekly summary.
