About this house
Eel house on Rokkaku-dori just east of Shinkyogoku, grilling Edo style: split down the back, white-grilled, steamed, then basted with a sauce topped up since the founding. The signature kinshi-don layers a Kyoto rolled omelet over eel rice (from ¥3,000; unagi-don from ¥3,200).

Forty seats: tables downstairs, tatami upstairs, where children are seated as there are no high chairs. Book on Tabelog, Hot Pepper, Ikyu, AutoReserve or by phone; walk-ins are seated in order and, outside peak seasons, usually without a long wait. Closed Wednesdays.

How do I book Kyogoku Kaneyo from abroad?
Kyogoku Kaneyo takes reservations online through Tabelog, Ikyu, Hot Pepper and AutoReserve, which you can use from abroad with your own account and a credit card. If you would rather not, our Tokyo desk can request it for you: ¥6,000 per seat, charged only if the table is secured. A free release-date alert emails you the day before, on the morning of release day (08:00 JST) and about 30 minutes before when the opening time is known; houses that open a little every day come in a weekly summary.
