About this house
Chef Masayuki Okuda's Shonai Italian, opened in 2000 and now at Onga-hara in Tsuruoka, cooks local vegetables and seafood with little more than heat and salt. Thirty-six seats and a terrace facing Mt. Gassan; the monthly calendar shifts with the chef's travel.

Courses with tax: A ¥5,500 (lunch only), B ¥8,800, C ¥16,500, Gokujo ¥22,000. Prices are indicative, as listed on Tabelog (October 2026). Cards and PayPay accepted. Logistics, not the book, are the hurdle: about 15 minutes by car from JR Tsuruoka Station, with parking for 30 cars. The group runs an inn, Yudonoan, at Yutagawa Onsen.

Al Ché-cciano takes reservations online through Tabelog (via official site) and OpenTable, which you can use from abroad with your own account and a credit card. If you would rather not, our Tokyo desk can request it for you: ¥6,000 per seat, charged only if the table is secured.
