Sadoya has been making wine in Kofu since 1917, and its grounds — a short walk from the north exit of Kofu station — hold the winery, a chapel, and a French restaurant the house calls Real d’Or. The main dining room is designed after a Provençal residence and opens onto a garden terrace; the kitchen’s stated purpose is to cook for the winery’s own bottles, using produce from Yamanashi and the surrounding region. The head chef since 2025, Shigeru Ichinose, learned his fundamentals at Chez Ino in Tokyo and then cooked in Los Angeles and San Francisco before joining Sadoya’s parent company in 2024. His own stated obsession is temperature: each ingredient cooked at the heat that suits it, and each plate served at the temperature it was meant for.

What you eat

Lunch is a choice‑menu that changes monthly: a short course at ¥3,630 (appetiser, fish or meat, dessert), a petit course at ¥4,400 with soup added, and a chef’s course at ¥6,600 that takes both the fish and the meat. Dinner climbs through four fixed courses — Provence at ¥6,600, Marseille at ¥8,800, Nice at ¥12,100 with two appetisers, fish, meat and dessert, and the Spécialité at ¥15,400, a chef’s omakase on premium ingredients. Any course can swap its main for a red‑wine‑braised Japanese beef cheek for ¥2,200. Prices include tax; the house does not publish a service charge. The wine list is Sadoya’s own, around eighty labels with fifteen by the glass. Children are welcome, and a children’s plate exists at ¥1,650.

The booking reality

This is one of the easy ones. The house takes bookings through its own online form, through TableCheck and Ikyu, and by telephone in Japanese on 055‑288‑8723. There is no release day. The rules that matter are about dinner: it is reservation‑only, the book closes at 20:00 the previous day (two days before for Sundays and holidays), and the house will not hold a table without a course — you choose your menu when you book. On Wednesdays, Sundays and holidays, the kitchen may close dinner bookings earlier still because it has to buy. Cancellation charges begin two days before; Ikyu lists same‑day cancellation at 100%.

Lunch is more relaxed but not casual: recent guests report a full room on a weekday lunch, and the house posts weekend lunch availability on its news page because those dates go. Note that the online form is a request, not a confirmation — replies sent after 19:00 on a Monday come back on Wednesday, after the Tuesday closure. For guests abroad, the simplest route is to let our desk call in Japanese, fix the course, and confirm the private room if you want it (¥10,000 plus tax).

Go if you

Travelers overnighting in Kofu on the way to the Koshu wineries or Mt. Fuji who want a proper French dinner they can reach on foot from the station; wine‑minded couples who would rather taste one winery’s range with food than tour a tasting bar; and families, who are genuinely welcome here.
